IMPORTANT RULINGS
BATTERIES
Please note with immediate effect, batteries will be disconnected by the port on every vehicle.
Please ensure that shippers know not to cover the batteries with anything that they load.
For example, Mercedes are an issue as they have batteries in the boot, so there can be no loaded
items in the boot as port must have easy access.
Similar with cars loaded onto truck heads. The wheels are sometimes resting on the cover for the
batteries making it almost impossible to get to the battery.
Please also ensure that batteries for stacked / loaded vehicles are disconnected before delivery to
the port.
Batteries will be disconnected for all vehicles for safety on board the vessel during transit at sea.
LOADED GOODS
CAN load personal effects / household goods / items
(No hazardous items, no foodstuffs or perishable goods, no fridges or solar panel batteries – if unsure
on anything please check)
BOOKING INFORMATION
With immediate effect the shipping line now requires that ALL vehicles booked on our Western andSouthern Africa service have the below advised at booking stage, we regret without this they strictly
cannot be booked and there are no exceptions allowed.
Make & Model
Registration
Full chassis number
This is also needed for all loaded /piggy-back units – and if any should change its imperative, we are
informed as we will need to amend booking prior to vessel loading.
There have been some changes in how they process the vessels on their arrival at port (mainly
Dakar) and they now require FULL vessel manifest to be presented to them, so this will need to
include the above information for all units going to other ports also.
Without this they will not allow discharge of vessel or the vessel may be arrested, and large fines will
be incurred.
DELIVERY PROCEDURE
Please note: To comply with new regulations due to UK no
longer being part of the EU, we will need full B/L instructions at the time of booking cargo.
Sheerness port request that all drivers delivering cargo directly into the port (not on a transporter of
some kind) arrange for a second vehicle to follow into the port which can then drive them back out
of the port grounds safely.
Port staff cannot offer drivers a lift back to the Main gate after they have delivered cargo. And due
to
regular health and safety procedures, drivers are also not allowed to walk back to the Main gate.
Driver’s delivering cargo on low loaders/transporters can carry on as normal as they are obviously
able to drive themselves back out of the port, however any escort vehicles accompanying drivers
who are delivering cargo will be asked to wait in a different area. After cargo has been parked in
appropriate lanes the driver can then walk to the escort vehicle and proceed to leave the port.IMPORTANT VEHICLE DELIVERY INFORMATION
