What is the cost of shipping to Ghana from the UK?
On average, it will cost you £580 to ship your saloon car through the RORO method. This means your car is driven onto the vessel at the UK port and off the same vessel once it arrives in Ghana.
The same car will cost you £1250 if you opt to transport it in a 20ft container. To save extra costs, you can add other items into the container and have them shipped in together.
For larger cars like the land Rover or any other 4×4, the cost of importing via RORO is £650 while the container method costs £1250. This is the same cost as a smaller vehicle because the 20ft container takes up the same space.
That said, you will need to request a detailed quotation with regards to Vans and other vehicles that do not meet the above categories. You will be required to give accurate dimensions and indicate modifications that will affect the size of space required to transport your car. A good alternative would be to hire a container instead of the RORO method for this importation.
If you are importing more than one vehicle, it is a good idea to request a 40ft container which will comfortably fit them both. This also gives you more room to include other items like spare parts and other non-vehicle items.

5 Things You Need to Know Before Shipping Your Car to Ghana from the UK
Other things include:
RoRo Vs. Containerized Car Shipping Method
If you are considering shipping your car for relocation purposes or simply for the summer holidays, then you might be asking which option is better: containerised or roll-on roll-off.
RoRo ships cost less than containerised shipping and can be loaded faster. They also load and unload faster at their destination. Containers can be used to protect your vehicle while traveling, as well as plastic bubbles and wooden crates. RoRos are slower, but containerised shipments offer more protection than RoRos.
Which one should I choose?
RoRo Shipping – What it is, and its Pros and Con’s
RoRo is Roll-On/Roll-off. This shipping method allows vehicles to load directly onto cargo ships, without any cranes. It works by laying your car flat and then rolling it into a cargo hold. This is also known as drive-on/drive-off because it doesn’t require any equipment or cranes for loading.
RoRo Shipping’s Pros and Cons
RoRo shipping can be a good option for your car.
Shipping by RoRo is much cheaper than shipping containerised goods. RoRo shipping is faster and cheaper than containerized shipments, making it a good choice for relocation.
This type of shipment offers a more direct service than any other form of transportation. Your car is simply driven onto the cargo ship. It then gets shipped directly at its destination.
It is more efficient than any other mode of transport because it doesn’t require cranes or trucks, which reduces transit times as well as increases speed.
RoRo shipping only requires that the car is driven on and off. Containerized shipping, for example, requires cars to be driven on and off. Because cranes take up more space on board, they are more expensive.
RoRo Shipping’s Cons
RoRo shipping comes with some drawbacks that you should consider.
RoRo can only ship cars and other vehicles (no other cargo is allowed). RoRo transport is unable to ship any type of cargo due to the lack of loading and unloading machinery.
This is not as safe as containerised transport because your car is loaded onto a crane and unloaded from it.
RoRo ships might not be right for you. Consider whether your car has a high or low ground clearance before you decide to buy one. The cargo hold is completely flat with no distinction between the walls and the deck. It can’t be used to store vehicles that are very low or have roof racks, such as SUVs.
What containerized shipping is, and its pros and cons
Containerized shipping is becoming very popular due to its ability to handle all types of cargo, even vehicles. This is an enclosed container that is loaded onto the cargo ship. Once it arrives at its destination, you can unload your vehicle from it.
The Pros of Containerized Shipping
Containerized shipping is a great option for cars.
Containerized shipping is the most secure way to ship your car. It doesn’t have any outside factors that could cause damage during transit. Containerized shipping is safer than RoRo.
Containerized shipping transports cars and other cargo together. This allows you to transport more than your vehicle, especially if you are shipping large items like household goods.
RoRo shipping can be faster than containerized shipping, as there is more space onboard without the need for cranes. This speeds up transit times and improves speed.
The Cons of Containerized Shipping
Containerized shipping has its pros and cons.
RoRo is more expensive because containers can hold cargo other than cars. Containerized shipments require cranes for loading and unloading cargo. Both of these steps take longer.
Containerised shipments cannot transport larger vehicles or cargo than what is allowed by the box.
Deciding between RoRo shipping and containerized shipping
Both methods of shipping cars have their advantages and disadvantages, but they all work well if you need to transport your vehicle. However, which type of vehicle you wish to ship, how many cargo you need, and how fast you need the shipment there to go will affect your decision.
RoRo shipping will cost you more if you have a car that isn’t high clearance or you need extra cargo. Otherwise, your shipment will arrive with the car and not its box.
Containerised shipping is more flexible than RoRo because you can ship any type or cargo together with your vehicle. You can’t ship extra cargo if containerized shipping is chosen for an SUV or car with high ground clearance.
